CALLED TO FREEDOM

Text: Galatians 5:13

OVERVIEW

What is true freedom? According to the dictionary, freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think without hindrance or restraint. It is liberation—the state of being free from the control of another. There is no greater blessing than being released from all forms of bondage or captivity. For those trapped under the enemy’s hold, true freedom is absent. This was the reality for the children of Israel until the Lord granted them deliverance.

Our scripture reference says: “For, brethren, you have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another” (Galatians 5:13). There is a universal call from Jesus Christ to all believers: to go into the world and share the gospel with every creature (Mark 16:15). Even if you do not consider yourself called to pastoral ministry, you are certainly called to live in freedom.

As Christians, our lives should reflect this freedom. Jesus came to release those bound by the enemy, not to leave them in bondage. But do we, as children of God, reflect this freedom to the world? While there is "freedom of choice," it holds no meaning for those trapped by their adversary.

The moment we confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we are set free—unless our confession is insincere. The Bible says, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). Only the Truth—Jesus Christ, the Son of God—can free us from our circumstances. So why do so many still remain in bondage?

The Lord’s Word gives us answers.

The primary reason people remain in bondage is because they do not know the Truth, Jesus Christ, who alone can deliver them.

Another reason is sin. Although sin is not always the cause of bondage, it is often a tool the enemy uses to keep people trapped.

For instance, when Jesus passed by a man born blind, His disciples asked if the man’s blindness was due to sin—his or his parents'. Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him” (John 9:1-7). Thus, not every affliction is due to personal sin. Still, sin provides an entry point for the enemy, making it essential to resist temptation constantly.

I pray that through this message, the Lord sets you and your family free from every snare of the enemy. If you do not yet fully know the Lord as your Truth and Savior, may God grant you the grace to receive Him fully.

5. PRAYER: Lord, release me from the chains of failure and confinement imposed by the enemy.

6. PRAYER: Lord, in Your mercy, open the book of remembrance for my freedom this year.

7. “But thus says the Lord: ‘Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered; for I will contend with him who contends with you, and I will save your children’” (Isaiah 49:25).

May the Lord's mighty hand set you free and may His presence fill your life with divine liberty.
